Basic Information:

Our team is comprised of both a boys and girls squad that practice together and play in matches on the same days (boys playing against other boys teams and girls against other girls teams). Our season runs from August 21 through the last week of October. State championships and the Girls Seaking District Tournament are both held in the spring.

Practices are held Monday through Thursday at Interbay Golf Center from 4:30-6:00. We do not practice on Fridays, but often have matches or other team events scheduled for Fridays. We have one whole-team event each year that is held on a Saturday, typically in September, but that is the only weekend commitment. Players who make the team are expected to come to every practice, match, and team event. The golf team does not provide transportation to and from Interbay or any match locations. It is important that players either catch a ride, drive themselves, or carpool to attend practice on time each day. A full schedule will be distributed to those who make the team during the first week of practices.

Fees:

There is no fee to play co-ed golf, but all players must have their own equipment (clubs, bag, shoes, balls, and tees) and knowledge of the game and the rules of golf. Players who make the team will pay for their uniform, but this cost can be subsidized by the team in the case of financial hardship.

Our Program:

Our program is designed to help kids develop their golf game through lots of opportunities for competition. This is not a place to learn to play golf for the first time! Male players who cannot shoot below 60 for 9 holes, or 120 for 18 holes, are encouraged to sign up for lessons and try out next year after they have accrued more experience in competitive play. Our girls team has historically been less competitive, with varsity girls scoring anywhere from 45-60 for 9 holes of golf. We invite all girls who can get around a golf course and have knowledge of the game to come try out for the team!

General Tryouts Information:

This year, we will be holding tryouts for the boys squad on August 21 and 22, and for the girls on August 23 and 24. We are doing this to limit the amount of kids out on the course at one time and allow for 18-hole rounds for the boys. There are sixteen spots available for boys and sixteen spots available for girls. There is no JV squad, and we will not be taking on more than 32 total players.

Boys Tryouts:

Prospective players are expected to attend both days of tryouts and will play 18 holes from the blue tees. Day 1 of tryouts will be held at our home course, Jackson. If needed, we will cut the field after Day 1 of tryouts to accommodate Tuesday’s tee times at West Seattle. See below for where we will be and at what times we will begin:

  • Monday, August 21 – Jackson Golf Course, tee times beginning at 11:06, with capacity for 40 players
  • Tuesday, August 22 – West Seattle Golf Course, tee times beginning at 11:15, with capacity for 32 players

At the end of Tuesday’s round, we will announce the team, which will be comprised of the sixteen boys who had the lowest combined scores between the two days. Following Tuesday, if you have made the team, you are welcome to come practice at Jefferson on Wednesday, August 23, and Thursday, August 24th, during the girls’ tryouts.

Girls Tryouts:

Prospective players are expected to attend both days of tryout and will play 9 or 18 holes from the red tees, depending on time and how many girls sign up to try out. Both girls tryout days are at Jefferson Park Golf Course, with tee times beginning at 11:30.

  • Wednesday, August 23 – Jefferson Park Golf Course, tee times beginning at 11:30
  • Thursday, August 24 – Jefferson Park Golf Course, tee times beginning at 11:30

At the end of Thursday’s round, we will announce the team, which will be comprised of the sixteen girls who had the lowest combined scores between the two days.

Equipment:

Players are expected to provide their own clubs, balls, and shoes.  The team provides practice balls and greens fees unless otherwise stated. It is very important that players bring their own clubs – the school will not be able to furnish rental sets for golfers.
