Information about Tryouts:

Tryouts will be held from August 22-25. Prospective players are expected to attend all four days of tryouts. Tee time priority will be given to male golfers, as the boys team will have cuts this year. We do not currently anticipate cutting girls, though this may change depending on the number of girls who try out.

Tryouts are 9 holes each day, though athletes are welcome and encouraged to play a full 18. The team will be determined based on averages from the four days of tryouts, and will be announced on August 26.

Please let Coach O’Hearn know if you cannot attend some of the tryout days. Inability to attend all four days of tryouts may result in you not making the team, since team composition depends on your average tryout scores and how many people come to try out.

Generally, Varsity boys score under 50 for 9 holes of play from the blue tees. Last year, JV averages ranged from 50-60 for 9 holes of play. Male players who cannot shoot below 60 for 9 holes are encouraged to sign up for lessons and try out after they have accrued more experience in competitive play.

The tryouts schedule is as follows. On days you are not playing, you will be expected to practice. All players will get to play at least two rounds if they attend all four days of tryouts.

  • August 22 (Jackson Park GC) – Tee times start at 1:48
  • August 23 (Jackson Park GC) – Tee times start at 1:03
  • August 24 (Jefferson Park GC) – Tee times start at 12:00
  • August 25 (Jefferson Park GC) – Tee times start at 12:00

Information about the Season:

Our season runs from August 22 until the last week of October. State championships and the Girls District tournament are both held in the Spring.

Practices are held at Interbay Golf Center starting at 4:30 PM and lasting until 6:30 M-Th. We do not schedule practices on Fridays, but players are expected to attend matches that occur on Fridays (we have three Friday matches this year). The season schedule will be distributed to all players on our first official practice following tryouts, on Monday, August 29.

The golf team does not provide transportation to and from Interbay or any match locations. It is important that players either catch a ride, drive themselves, or carpool to attend practice on time each day.

We do have both a JV and Varsity squad, though the entire team practices together. Generally, only Varsity plays in matches.

Equipment:

Players are expected to provide their own clubs, balls, and shoes.  The team provides practice balls and greens fees unless otherwise stated. It is very important that players bring their own clubs – the school will not be able to furnish rental sets for golfers.
