    Dear Lincoln Families,

Welcome back! Due to starting this school year online, it is critical that all students have a computer for the first day of school, September 4th, 2020.
All students MUST have a computer with a camera and microphone/speakers at home. This email will provide important information about technology, distribution, and opening family nights. Additional information for the start of the school year will be provided later.
There are two laptop options available to students outlined below: SPS or BYOD. ONCE DECIDED ALL STUDENTS MUST complete the 2020-2021 Student Laptop Agreement found here. You can also access it at: https://tinyurl.com/yy2nj99h. If you are a returning 10th or 11th grader who already has a device, you WILL complete this form as an update, but you won’t come to laptop distribution next week.

Please read all information regarding technology and distribution below.

    SPS laptop

An SPS laptop can be used at school and at home. District-issued laptops include free repairs, tech support from district staff, and the guarantee of compatibility with all school-required software and tools.

    BYOD-(Bring Your Own Device)

Families who participate in the BYOD program help to support equity in our school and throughout the district by creating additional resources for students who may need them. It also provides students with the ability to individualize the computer they purchase and use.

    Computer Specifications

If a student chooses to use their personal device at school, the minimum computer specifications to ensure the ability to run the basic software most end users operate is:

    • Processor - dual core @ 2.4 GHz (i5 or i7 Intel processor or equivalent AMD)
    • RAM - 8 GB
    • Hard Drive - 320 GB 5400 RPM hard drive
    • Wireless (for laptops) - 802.11g/n (WPA2 support required)
    • Camera built in or have access to an external webcam

Please note: Chromebooks, iPads, and other tablets are not compatible with some software required for art and technology programs. Mac/Apple devices may have difficulty connecting to the school wireless network.

District tech support staff will not repair or assist with students’ personal devices for liability reasons.

All new families to Lincoln should review the specifications for the BYOD device and laptop expectations and responsibilities to help make their selection. We have attached the following documents to help support this choice.

    • Student 1-1 Laptop Expectations and Responsibilities
    • Student Flyer
    • Parent Flyer

    August 25th:

Current 10th/11th grade students should still have their SPS or BYOD device from last year and should plan on continuing to use these devices. If your current SPS device is broken and needs repair, please email laptops@seattleschools.org or call 206-252-0100.
