    February is Black History Month

During Black History Month, we celebrate the achievements of African Americans and we also celebrate the incredible contributions that Black businesses make to their local communities and the American economy. The Seattle Public Schools Central Office Black Caucus Affinity group wanted to share with you black owned businesses that some of our SPS employees have personally frequented or have a personal connection with. Also, we have highlighted those businesses that are owned and operated by employees of SPS as well. Please click on the link Black-Owned Businesses and browse around.

    Winter Weather Preparedness

Planning for winter weather in 2020-21 is different than in past years. As a result of remote learning, we are better positioned to continue school even when it is snowing, and or the roads are icy. Changes to school schedules because of winter weather will be limited and traditional "snow day" closures are unlikely.
If winter weather requires the cancellation of in-person learning or the closure of school buildings, all students will learn remotely.

    Athletics Update

A quick clarification to our athletic update. Students can participate in one sport per season. There will be two seasons this year, so students can choose to participate in one sport each of the seasons. At this time, students cannot participate in more than one sport in the same season.
Athletics are currently scheduled to resume February 22nd for the Metro League and Lincoln HS. There will be two shortened seasons this spring that will include all of the sports offerings we provided students in our inaugural 2019-20 school year. Season 1 sports include: boys’ & girls’ cross-country, golf and football along with girls’ soccer, volleyball, swimming, and gymnastics and ends on April 17th. Season 2 begins the following Monday, April 19th and these sports include: boys’ & girls’ basketball, wrestling, tennis, and track & field, as well as boys’ baseball, soccer and swimming and girls’ fastpitch. You can compete in one sport per season. Lincoln and Metro League athletes can play in one sport during each season for a total of two allowed this school year. Make sure you have signed up for the sport you are interested in participating in this spring on FamilyID with an updated physical uploaded so you can be cleared by the Athletic Director. You are also required to pay for an ASB card to compete in a sport, and this price is reduced to $20 for this year only. Coaches for each sport should be reaching out to athletes that are signed up on FamilyID shortly to begin preparation for the season, explain tryouts for their sport, and go through specific expectations. Please email coaches directly if you have sport specific questions. With general questions you can contact the Athletic Director, Brent Brakke, at bwbrakke@seattleschools.org.
