PTSA Table Talk - Thursday, January 14, 2021

In this PTSA Table Talk, "Creating an Inclusive Racial Climate: The Role of Families," Dr. Jonathan Kanter will lead a talk and discussion on the impact of racially insensitive jokes among students, specifically on the topic of "all lives matter," the importance of a collective parent-community-school effort in creating an inclusive school climate, and what parents can do. He will also introduce to Lincoln parents one of the key goals of the Lincoln PTSA’s DEI committee, to partner with Lincoln HS (and potentially other neighborhood schools) to actively build community engagement among parents and caregivers to facilitate Lincoln’s goal of creating a climate of inclusiveness. Jonathan Kanter, PhD, is a Lincoln HS parent, member of the PTSA’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee, clinical psychologist, Behavioral Scientist with UW Medicine’s Office of Health Care Equity, and Director of UW’s Center for the Science of Social Connection. With several decades’ experiences working with BIPOC communities and expertise in the science of microaggressions, Dr. Kanter regularly consults and gives trainings on microaggressions and other DEI topics for organizations in health care, educational, legal and other settings.

Held on the 2nd Thursday of each month, PTSA Table Talks are monthly events where you can connect, brainstorm with, and get to know other Lincoln Families. We will be addressing different issues each month, and encourage feedback and involvement from all Lincoln families. Questions? Email  Info@LincolnSeattlePTSA.org for more information and for the meeting link.
