    2019-20 ASB Constitution

     

    Preamble

     

    We, the students of Lincoln High School, Seattle, hereby re-establish the Associated Student Body of Lincoln High School. Lincoln High School is a community that models inclusivity, supports the needs of all students, and creates the space for all students to feel safe and invest in their own personal journey of learning. We believe that Lincoln High School should be a place where all students can explore and discover their interests without the fear of judgment.

     

    Article I – Name of Organization

     

    Section A: It is resolved that the name of this organization shall be the Associated Student Body of Lincoln High School, Seattle, Washington, hereafter described as “ASB.”

     

    Article 2 - Purpose

     

    Section A: the purpose of the ASB organization is to

    1. amplify student voice,
    2. represent the diverse perspectives of the student body in decisions made that affect the student body,
    3. ensure equity,
    4. honestly and proudly represent Lincoln in the community

     

    Article 3 – Membership

     

    Section A: All Lincoln High School students currently enrolled at Lincoln High School are considered members of the Associated Student Body and have the right to have a voice in any meetings of the representatives of the student body.

     

    Section B: Purchasing an ASB discount card does not signify membership in the Associated Student Body, but does give students who purchase an ASB discount card additional benefits, which are set on an annual basis and listed in the student handbook.

     

    Section C: Membership in the Lincoln HS ASB ends upon graduation or upon withdrawal from Lincoln High School.

     

    Article 4 – Elections/Selections of Officers

     

    Section A: The following will be the officer positions within this club

    1. ASB
      1. For the 2019-2020 school year, no specific ASB positions shall be held. The duties of ASB officers shall be fulfilled collaboratively by the Lincoln HS Student Design Team, under the guidance of the ASB advisor.
        1. exception: the role of Treasurer will be determined by a vote from the Design Team on a nominated member, who shall be responsible to sign all financial paperwork for the 2019-2020 school year.
      2. Design Team meetings shall occur at least once per week, at a date and time that is agreed upon ahead of time by all members.
        1. every effort shall be made to make this a consistent meeting time for the year
        2. All design team meetings are public and open for all Lincoln High School students to attend
      3. Class officer meetings shall be held at least once per month in the presence of the class advisor or designated staff representative
    2. Class officers
      1. Class officer positions for the 2019-2020 school year shall consist of a council of 6-8 officers that collaboratively make decisions for their class.
      2. at least 3 different incoming schools must be represented in the officer council
      3. class officer duties shall rotate between council members
        1. exception: the council shall determine a specific member to act as Treasurer, who shall be responsible to sign all financial paperwork for the 2019-2020 school year.

    Section B: ASB (Student Design Team) selections

    1. For the 2019-2020 school year, the Student Design Team shall serve as the de facto ASB. The team shall consist of the members who applied during the 2018-2019 school year, as well as the class officers that are selected in 2019.
      1. ASB election/selection processes for subsequent years shall be determined through a constitutional vote during the 2019-2020 school year.

    Section C: Class officer selections

    1. For the 2019-2020 school year, class officer selections shall be made no later than November 1 and officers shall serve until a more permanent system shall be agreed upon by the student body.
    2. The application will be developed in collaboration with the ASB advisor, administration, and Student Design Team
      1. Selections of 2019-2020 officers shall be made through an application and interview process done with both the ASB advisor and a minimum of 4 Student Design Team members present.
      2. If there are more than 8 applicants for the class officer team that pass through the interview process, 8 applicants will be chosen by lottery system in the presence of the ASB advisor and an administrator.

     

    Article 5 – Duties

     

    Section A: The Duties of the Design Team are to 

    1. promote and develop a positive climate and healthy culture at Lincoln High School
    2. fundraise for student activities that support inclusivity and building a strong community at Lincoln High School
    3. spearhead Lincoln HS community outreach in the Wallingford neighborhood

     

    Section B: The Duties of the class officers are to

    1. promote and develop a positive climate and healthy culture at Lincoln High School
    2. fundraise for student activities that support inclusivity and building a strong community at Lincoln High School

     

    Article 6 - Clubs and student organizations

     

    Section A: Student clubs and organizations at Lincoln High School shall exist to promote inclusivity, belongingness, and a positive culture at Lincoln High School.

     

    Section B: Student Clubs and organizations are expected to

    1. meet a minimum of once per month in the presence of an advisor
    2. maintain accurate meeting minutes that are submitted to the ASB advisor at the end of each school year
    3. submit a yearly budget
    4. be open to all Lincoln HS students

     

    Article 7 - Constitutional Amendments and Changes

     

    Section A: During the 2019-2020 school year, the students of Lincoln HS shall be given the opportunity to propose and vote on changes to the Lincoln HS ASB constitution.

     

    Section B: Changes to the Lincoln HS ASB Constitution must be approved by 60% of the voting members of the Lincoln HS student body.
